Midnight Sun In early June light never fades as I travel the long roads of childhood once more and his memory came to me. On a night like this not long ago a boy walked these grassy fields as I do now in search of forever. His brown hair grasped the fingers of the wind while playful eyes sought, across fields of green, the horizon where forever lived. Scents of summer caressed his senses, formed memories never to be taken for granted and his heart skipped a beat. Seeing nothing but beauty he did not know sadness as I do. Across fields up onto a tree crowned hill I walk to stand where my dreams were born for the first time. Now when the high hill he conquered forever spread in front of him, glittering blue green like a liquid dream in the midnight sun. Not knowing words for beauty like this he smiled, knowing it was enough. My first love lived where I now stand on this hill until the boy became a man, never seeing the midnight sun again I could not smile. So now I stand here looking for what I never wanted to forget, the smile of a child for the sake of beauty itself from a time not long ago. The years full of knowledge gave me much but forever never changed, blue green as ever, as my heart skips a beat tears fall across lips shaped of joy.
