Description of Role:
We seek a consultant to develop a solution proposal for the following project. Should the proposal meet our criteria in terms of feasibility and desired results, the consultant will move forward with its implementation.
Project:
The goal is to create a system that analyzes two sentences in different languages, which are translations of each other, and accurately maps each word or phrase in one sentence to its corresponding translation in the other. This task requires understanding both the lexical and contextual nuances of the words and phrases within the sentences.
For example:
English sentence: "Thank you for helping me."
Spanish sentence: "Gracias por ayudarme."
The system should identify that "Thank you" in English translates to "Gracias" in Spanish, recognizing that this two-word expression in English corresponds to a single word in Spanish. Additionally, it should map "for helping me" to "por ayudarme," understanding the phrase as a cohesive unit rather than as individual words.
Another example:
English sentence: "I will check in at the hotel."
French sentence: "Je vais m'enregistrer à l'hôtel."
Here, the system needs to recognize that "check in" translates to "m'enregistrer," a single verb in French that captures the two-word action in English. It also needs to correctly associate "at the hotel" with "à l'hôtel," understanding prepositional phrases and their role in the sentence structure.
The system's ability to group and translate words and phrases accurately requires a deep understanding of syntax, semantics, and the idiomatic expressions used in both languages involved.
Ideally the implementation of such a system can also process language pairs on which it was not trained on.
