Upwork is hiring a Generative ML for Typography - Pilot Project

We are looking for a machine learning engineer to partner on an initial pilot for a creative generative typography project. The goal is to train a model to generate stylized glyph designs in an automated way by learning from existing font data.

This is a contract to complete the first milestone demonstrating core feasibility. If successful, it may lead to an ongoing engagement on the project.

The outcome will be a basic implementation that can generate glyph images by sampling from a trained AI model. Your role will be:

•Sourcing/processing training data from open font libraries

• Training autoencoder and generative models (e.g. diffusion models) on this data

• Generating samples and evaluating quality with metrics

• Documenting approach, results and recommendations

This initial milestone is estimated at 70-100 hours but timing is flexible. The priority is demonstrating initial technical viability before iterating and refining further.

Ideal candidates will have strong Python skills and experience with generative models like autoencoders, GANs, diffusion models etc. Knowledge of typography is not required. This is an opportunity to showcase your ML skills in a creative domain!
