Work Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Freelance Science Writer to join our team on a contract basis. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in scientific research, with exceptional writing skills tailored to academic and/or general audiences (we have needs for both).
This role involves a diverse range of writing tasks, including crafting research articles, compiling toxicology literature, drafting regulatory submission documents, developing sections for NIH-style grants, and creating engaging scripts for public science communication.
Even if you do not feel like you are a good fit for each of the above types of science writing tasks, feel free to still get in touch, as we are open to hiring multiple separate freelancers for different tasks, if necessary.
Example Responsibilities:
Toxicology Literature Compilation: Conduct comprehensive literature searches on specific compounds in published academic journals. Compile and summarize toxicology findings from prior animal studies into organized tables.
Regulatory Submission Drafting: Based on a draft template and starting notes, write up initial drafts for pre-Investigational New Drug (pre-IND) submissions, detailing the indication background, competitive marketplace analysis, and scientific rationale for the new compound.
Research Article Writing: Based on a template and starting notes , draft a coherent and well-structured drafts of research articles based on provided data and figures, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and adherence to publication standards.
Grant Writing: Based on a template and starting notes, draft sections for NIH-style grants following provided frameworks and referencing examples of prior successful grants, with a focus on clear articulation of research objectives and methodologies.
Creative Science Communication: Craft scripts for short-form videos aimed at explaining scientific topics to a broad, non-technical audience, incorporating creativity to engage and educate viewers effectively.
Qualifications:
Proven experience in scientific writing, with a portfolio that includes research articles, grant applications, and/or regulatory documents.
Ability to interpret and summarize complex scientific data into clear, concise, and engaging content for diverse audiences.
Excellent research skills, with proficiency in navigating academic databases and sourcing relevant literature.
Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
Creative thinking and storytelling abilities, with experience in writing scripts for public engagement preferred.
