Conversational generative AI has the potential to revolutionize the way consumers and businesses communicate and interact, but the public models released in late 2022 arenât ready for an enterprise production setting out of the box. SightLayer believes that every business should have customized conversational AI for engaging with their customers across all channels, with full control and privacy, and our mission is to build the tools for them to do this without the need for a company to hire a full team of engineers. We are applying this to the customer support experience, ensuring a seamless and delightful interaction for both the customer and the agent by equipping the agent with the right tone and data at the right time, tailored to the customer context and intent.
We are looking for a highly motivated and talented Applied AI/ML Language Model Engineer to join our team as Engineering Hire #2. In this role, you will play a crucial part in shaping the SightLayer AI product long term, alongside our founding team (AI/ML lead architect, product lead, and technical program manager). Initial projects will be hands on with our early clients to build custom conversational AI for their customer support agents, to help inform the longer term product vision and roadmap. This requires knowledge of the full language model stack (including deep knowledge in the latest tools and frameworks).
Required Skills/Experience:
Experience in prototyping and building AI products using LLMs, embeddings, and utilizing AI / ML tools in a responsible and predictable manner, including model vetting, pilot development, and production implementation
Experience fine-tuning LLMs using proprietary data
Expertise in designing efficient vector storage and retrieval systems
Familiarity with both supervised and unsupervised ML techniques
Ability to collect and analyze complex unstructured data
Extensive experience in Python, SQL
Backend development experience with expertise in SQL/relational databases and NodeJS is a plus
Experience deploying scalable models and systems
Proactive in staying up to date with the latest advancements in the field of AI / ML and applying them to develop innovative solutions
Experience architecting and implementing cloud data infrastructure and pipelines (Azure, AWS, and GCP)
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Experience with rapid development cycles and building well-documented applications
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in Javascript, PHP, C++, Java
Practical experience in software development (ideally full stack but at least front end) and production deployments for data-intensive or ML-based products
Proficiency in building Conversational AI chatbot systems
Knowledgeable about privacy-preserving data techniques
Experience managing and motivating teams

SightLayer was formed in early 2023 to build conversational AI products from the newly released public large language models, for use by enterprises and SMBs. Some members of our team have been working together for 3 years, and we have been prototyping off of the LLMs since the first ones were made public in late 2022. We are a team of 7 people currently, with 4 based in the US and 3 remote workers abroad. We are in talks with several clients to build conversational AI products in production over Q3 and Q4 2023.
