Looking for research assistants / virtual assistants to help with data collection for a research study between December 2023 and February 2024. This will be a great fit if you’re interested in social science research or have experience completing administrative tasks.
The study aims to quantify hiring disparities between job applicants with online bachelor’s degrees and those who completed their college education in person. Using a correspondence audit experiment, I pose as fictitious job applicants and send resumes and cover letters to real job postings in business administration. The fictitious job applicants resemble recent bachelor’s degree graduates, half from online colleges and the other half from brick-and-mortar colleges. Like typical online bachelor’s degree students, these fictitious job applicants are adults with prior work experience. The outcome measure is the job callback rate. If employers view online degrees as lesser, we expect fewer online applicants to receive a callback.
Research assistants will help me in identifying the job postings that I will apply to as part of the study, using criteria I have developed. Job postings will be sourced from a national job search website. Research assistants will complete the following weekly:
1) Receive an Excel spreadsheet from me on Monday morning with job postings posted last week from a national job search website.
2) Evaluate job postings against inclusion criteria to identify a list of suitable jobs.
3) Test suitable jobs for additional exclusion criteria related to the application process.
4) Input data for selected job postings into a spreadsheet (e.g., title, company, description, etc.).
5) By Friday, send me the complete spreadsheet of jobs for that week. I will apply for the jobs separately. Research assistants will not apply for any jobs.
The work is expected to begin on December 4th. The work is expected to end by February 11th. Before data collection begins, there will be a brief training period (paid at the same rate). Training can begin prior to December 4th if you are available. This project requires weekly participation throughout the data collection period. There will be approximately 10 hours of work each week, which can be completed by one or several research assistants, depending on your availability.
Research assistants must be fluent in English and have a strong attention to detail to follow the job search inclusion criteria. Accurate data entry skills are also required. Prior experience as a research assistant is preferred but is not required.
This job is already closed and no longer accepting applicants, sorry.
