We're a career website that creates a ton of content for motivated people who want to get the most out of their careers. Our audience is young and mid-level professionals who love reading informative, non-BS, helpful articles on various topics related to their careers: whether that's resumes, career changes, LinkedIn, or networking.
Our website is mainly made up of informative, engaging blog posts. We have an intricate system now in place using AI to research and generate the first draft of each article. And I'm looking for 2 or 3 copyeditors to add a human touch.
But here's the deal.
I'm not looking for just about any copyeditor.
I'm specifically looking for someone who can make stylistic choices to connect with humans on an emotional level. Not that robotic, generic, fluff-filled content you may have seen requested elsewhere.
Our readers are people who are often struggling in their job search. They come to us for guidance and help to get them back in the right direction.
Boring, non-informative, overly SEO-optimized content or sales-y marketing speak almost always turns them off. So we don't want any of that.
What we want is someone who can write with empathy and can empathize with the challenges our readers feel. Someone who writes like they speak. Why use fancy buzzwords when you can say things simply and beautifully, right?
This won't be nearly as arduous as some of the other assignments you might be used to. The AI-written first draft will let you focus on what you love - the human connection - and less on the research element.
SOME MORE BACKGROUND
- You will be copyediting engaging and informative career advice. If this is a new field for you, no worries; we care less about your career background and more about your ability to connect with readers.
- This is a long-term opportunity with room for growth as we publish more content. So please make sure you can commit longer-term before applying!
- You will copyedit 1-10 articles/blog posts per week, depending on your availability and ability to spot sterile/empty/meaningless/robotic writing and transform it into something relatable.
- You will be working mostly independently, but can reach out to me for assistance any time.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
- Copyediting high-quality content in conversational yet informative US English (native proficiency required)
- Maintaining attention to detail and producing error-free content
- Following our content guide closely, while also using your creativity to fill in missing gaps.
STUFF YOU SHOULD KNOW
- Absolutely no plagiarism - all content will need to be unique and unplagiarised. 100% copyscape passed.
- No fake, impersonated profiles - samples must be your own.
- No experience with SEO is necessary at all - We always write for people, not for robots.
*SCREENING QUESTIONS*
If you are interested, please answer the simple screening questions when applying. Ignoring these questions will result in your application being automatically disregarded. Please rewrite the intro paragraph to the article here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1FLBh2n52h2niXNSNirSSnBHhe7oowISNLQfw6Ygy1uM/edit. And remember, we are looking for someone who can write, conversationally and honestly, who can make a real connection with our readers.
This job is already closed and no longer accepting applicants, sorry.
