Upwork is hiring a Senior Data Scientist Needed for Security and Financial Risk Assessment

This project is for a research experiment we're conducting in the Decentralized Finance (DeFi) sector with the goal of advancing safety and security within the space. In DeFi, market participants must not only consider financial risks of investments (ie., price fluctuation, opportunity cost, etc) but also security risks. We've identified three main areas of security risk:

- Risk Categories, which are broad areas of risk,

- Risk Types, semi-broad areas under Risk Categories, and

- Risk Items, which fall under Risk Types and are specific metrics used to quantify their relationship to Risk Types

There are several phases to this project:

Phase 1: Security Risk Score

We need the data scientist to

- Review and update experimental design,

- Review and update data collection template to ensure data collected is sufficient for analysis,

- Conduct appropriate types of analysis (multi-variate regression, log. regression, etc.) and simulations,

- Produce a model that outputs a Security Risk Score for relevant DeFi elements

We'll conduct the gathering of experimental data.

Phase 2: Financial Risk Score

- Will follow a similar path to Phase 1 but won't be as tedious

- Produce a model that outputs a Financial Risk Score for relevant DeFi elements

Phase 3: Risk Score

- Bring together both Security and Financial Risk Scores to produce a Risk Score

- Produce a model that outputs a Risk Score for relevant DeFi elements

Responsibilities:

- Lead the experimental design for risk assessment in the DeFi sector, focusing on Blockchain, Protocol, Asset, and Pool risk categories.

- Collect, clean, and analyze large datasets to evaluate risk components (Categories, Types, Items) and their impact on investment security.

- Develop statistical models to quantify and predict the probability of failure based on the frequency and severity of risk factors.

- Conduct inferential statistical analysis to validate hypotheses about risk impact on investment failure.

- Communicate complex data insights and model findings in a clear and actionable manner.

Altogether, the ideal candidate will be deeply involved in the design and execution of statistical experiments, data analysis, and model development to estimate the probability of investment failure based on a comprehensive set of risk factors. Your input will have a direct impact on creating a safer, more robust DeFi ecosystem.

Ideal Qualifications:

- Master’s or Ph.D. in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.

- Strong proficiency in statistical analysis, predictive modeling, and machine learning techniques.

- Experience with data science tools and programming languages (e.g., Python, R, SQL).

- Familiarity with blockchain technology and the DeFi ecosystem is highly desirable.
