Position Summary

At Appen, we are seeking an experienced and dedicated Principal Software Engineer to lead the way in the development of innovative AI and machine learning solutions. As a Principal Software Engineer, you will be at the forefront of our efforts to design and implement complex software systems, playing a key role in driving our mission to transform AI and machine learning.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the design, development, and implementation of high-performing, scalable, and secure software systems using technologies such as Java, Python etc. 
• Provide strategic technical leadership and direction across multiple projects and teams. 
• Collaborate closely with key stakeholders, including product managers, data scientists, and other engineers to drive project outcomes and deliver high-quality software solutions. 
• Serve as a mentor and guide to junior and mid-level engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement. 
• Drive the resolution of complex technical challenges, ensuring the optimal performance and reliability of our software systems. 
• Champion the adoption and enforcement of best practices in software development, including code reviews, testing, and documentation. 
• Translate strategic business needs into practical, scalable architecture to develop innovative software solutions. 

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. A Master's Degree or higher is preferred. 
• 10+ years of experience in software development. 
• Demonstrated expertise in multiple programming languages such as Java, Python etc. 
• Expert knowledge in Java, Spring Boot, and JPA/Hibernate development platform. 
• Work experience in designing relational database management systems (RDBMS) or NoSQL databases. 
• Deep understanding of advanced algorithms, data structures, and software design principles. 
• Prior experience with AI and machine learning technologies is highly desirable. 
• Exceptional problem-solving skills and keen attention to detail. 
• Outstanding leadership and communication skills, with a proven track record of mentoring and guiding teams. 
• Ability to work effectively and deliver results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
