Working within the Data Science group, as a Director - Speech Science, you will report to the VP of AI and lead and collaborate to develop novel algorithms and modelling techniques to advance the state of the art in speech technology. This is a critical role for Uniphore as we emerge as a leader in the AI revolution we are witnessing today. Without accurate speech technology, most downstream innovations will be immaterial. Your team will be responsible for developing novel neural algorithms and modeling techniques to help gain SOTA across domains, languages, and modalities. You will also help architect the MLOps pipelines to deliver the engines we build into our best-of-the-class AI platform. You will have to be hands on and provide thought leadership while managing the team deliverables. You will also work with scientists in other areas of AI/NLP, including the hottest area of LLMs, as we explore multi-modal and cross-modal approaches to conversational AI.
Responsibilities:
- Taking requirements from product teams based on which you identify key research questions.
- Contribute to defining data requirements for conducting research and model enhancements.
- Adopting or proposing innovative machine learning solutions
- Publishing results and working with the engineering team to deploy solutions.
- Keeping abreast with state-of-the-art and evaluating and infusing these advancements into Uniphore portfolio
- Contribute to the intellectual property of Uniphore by innovating new approaches to challenges related to our products.
- Provide thought leadership and mentoring for junior team members.
- Represent Uniphore globally as part of research community contributing to opensource repositories and publications.
- Minimum 7+ years of experience in the field of Speech Recognition, ML and Signal Processing
- MS/PhD in Mathematics, Statistics, AI, Machine Learning, or a related quantitative field
- Proven record of innovating novel algorithms and advancing the state of the art
- Experience working with open-source speech engines such as Kaldi, K2/Icefall, wav2vec and Hubert.
- Extremely comfortable with various neural architectures in ASR – Conformer, CTC, Zip former etc.
- Hands-on with building commercial speech engines as a SaaS offering.
- Experience working with machine learning technologies, Deep Learning, Natural Language Processing (NLP), information retrieval and/or related applications.
- Proficient with ML/DL tools such as Tensorflow and Pytorch
- Team leadership experience
