At Matterworks we are building AI tools to extract insights from the ever-growing corpora of biological data and to unlock opportunities in therapeutic discovery, development, and manufacturing. We are building large-scale deep learning models of biological data to predict the phenotype and behavior of biological systems.
Matterworks is seeking an experienced software engineer with expertise in shipping and scaling web applications. Your expertise will enable us to expand Nova, our digital platform for developing, tuning, and serving machine learning models. You will join an interdisciplinary team, collaborating directly with our scientists, machine learning researchers, and fellow software engineers and product team members.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the execution of features end-to-end, from initial design through prototype and large-scale rollout.
- Collaborate with cross-functional team members to scope and translate requirements into actionable technical specifications.
- Contribute to software architecture and long-term product direction.
- BS/MS in Computer Science or 5 years of relevant industry experience.
- 3-5 years of professional experience in developing web applications using full software stacks (e.g. Django, MEAN, MEVN, serverless stacks).
- Solid knowledge of data management tools and frameworks, including databases such as SQL and DynamoDB, and data lakes and warehouses.
- 2+ years of professional experience in back-end development using Python and Python-based frameworks (e.g. Django, Flask, Tornado, FastAPI, Quart, or similar).
- Working knowledge of front-end frameworks based on Typescript/Javascript, HTML, and CSS (e.g. React, Vue.js, and Angular).
- Experience deploying web applications and services using infrastructure as code frameworks, such as AWS Cloud Formation and Terraform.
- An innate sense of independence and ownership.
- A passion for contributing to an early-stage startup where autonomy, eagerness to learn, and enthusiasm for biological engineering prevail over rigid processes and egos.
- Experience designing and implementing cloud-based microservice architectures.
- Practical understanding of agile testing methodologies such as FDD, TDD, and BDD.
