Kodra's mission is to maximize the the number of AI use cases deployed to production. Today there is unprecedented demand for companies that want to apply machine learning to their own unique problems, but the tooling for cross-disciplinary, iterative ML development is still nascent.

At Kodra, we believe that there should be more focus on enabling self-service ML development. To make this feasible, we are building a product that combines research from active learning, transfer learning, cognitive psychology, weak supervision, and crowdsourcing in order to create the fastest and most economical way for our customers to collaboratively build novel ML applications that are tailored for their own use cases. Our goal is to build a product that brings an order of magnitude improvement to the manual effort required to build new machine learning applications.

As a founding machine learning engineer, you will get to work with the rest of the founding team to help define ML strategy for Kodra's flagship product. Our backend stack is in Python (Django, Celery, Pytorch). Experience in compute-efficient training methods or research background in machine learning is a plus.

Basic and Required Qualifications:

• Technology Stack:
• Enterprise and Saas Experience
• Worked on ML/AI cloud native ML products, Data Science tools, and ecosystem 
• Hands-on experience building and running highly technical and scalable teams
• Work with product/customer teams on how machine learning can make their product or system better
• Management/Leadership Stack:
• Experience building and leading expert machine learning teams that have routinely launched new products and features that drive significant revenue and engagement with machine learning.
• Experience developing machine learning products and capabilities in a cloud environment with a good understanding of the product and sales side of the business
• Experience with prioritizing and adding new machine learning-based features and capabilities,  launching new products to drive revenue
• Capacity plan pre-sales and post-sales support from within the team. Drive horizontal engineering efforts that improve the efficiency of the pre-sales and post-sales organizations.
• Work with multiple stakeholders within Product, Sales, and Engineering and with Customers to plan releases.
• Customer Advocacy Stack:
• Candidate should have the business, strategic, and technical background to understand the customer needs to innovate new features and  product ideas 
• Visionary thinker: Should be able to develop plans for customer acquisition and growth plan, strategic partnership and should be able to interact with internal and external leadership to be successful.

Required Qualifications for Ideal candidate

• 4+ years of professional experience in SaaS/Enterprise companies 
• Strong experience with data ingestion and connectors
• Experience in building end-to-end production-grade data solutions on AWS or GCP
• Experience in building scalable ETL pipelines.
• Ability to plan effective data storage, security, sharing, and publishing within an organization.
• Experience in developing batch ingestion and data transformation routines using ETL tools.
• Familiarity with AWS services such as S3, Kinesis, EMR, Lambda, Athena, Glue, IAM, RDS.
• Proficiency in several programming languages (Python, Scala, Java).
• Familiarity with orchestration tools such as Temporal, Airflow, Luigi, etc.
• Self-starter, motivated, with the ability to structure complex problems and develop solutions.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to explain data and analytics strengths and weaknesses to both technical and senior business stakeholders.

• Deep familiarity with Spark and/or Hive
• Understanding of different storage formats like Parquet, Avro, Arrow, and JSON and when to use each
• Understanding of schema designs like normalization vs. denormalization.
• Proficiency in Kubernetes, and Terraform.
• Azure, ADF and/or Databricks skills
• Experience with integrating, transforming, and consolidating data from various data systems into analytics solutions
• Good understanding of databases, SQL, ETL tools/techniques, data profiling and modeling
• Strong communications skills and client engagement

Responsibilities

• As part of the Business Intelligence team, own and maintain the entire data warehouse, including 50 - 100 million events coming through a Kafka queue each day, a 15 TB relational data warehouse and an integration with Google BigQuery.
• Work in a cross-functional team and be the team's point person for any data related tasks (ETLing new data, analysis, visualizations, etc.)
• Monitor and analyze the team’s A/B tests and proactively communicate key insights within your team and to external stakeholders.
• Be the voice of data by supporting the team's product owner in finding business opportunities, defining KPIs, and setting team goals.
• Actively establish processes and build tools to make data more accessible to everyone.
• Use your knowledge of statistics to support the Business Intelligence team in building and maintaining machine learning models (neural networks, logistic regressions, boosted trees, k-means clustering, etc.) that drive a significant portion of our revenue.
• Help and teach others throughout the company to better use and understand our data.
• Present findings and insights to teammates, stakeholders, and leadership.

• A passion for learning and a willingness to pick up whatever you need to get the job done
• 2-5 years of experience in a data analyst role, experience with web analytics is a plus 
• Solid SQL experience (we use MySQL and BigQuery)
• Strong analytical skills and ability to draw conclusions based on data
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while juggling multiple projects
• Solid experience in Excel for data analysis and visualization
• BS in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Operations Research, or similar fields
• Good interpersonal communication and presentation skills
• Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and passionate
• Some programming experience.  We primarily use Java/Groovy and Python, with some legacy code written in R.

• Reporting and Business Intelligence experience (Tableau, Looker, QlikView, Microstrategy, etc) 
• Hands-on experience with advanced statistical concepts, such as cluster analysis, singular value decomposition, stochastic gradient descent, and Bayesian methods
• Experience using an ETL tool (Pentaho, Talend, SSIS, etc.) on large datasets (terabytes in size) 
• Knowledge of web analytics software and best practices
• Experience with generative AI (e.g. ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, etc.) to assist in coding and other technical tasks
• Masters Degree or PhD

The salary range for this role is $105,000 - $125,000 per year. The salary range associated with this job considers the skill sets, experience and training required for this role in the San Francisco Bay Area.
