We seek a dynamic and experienced Technical Program Manager to join our fast-growing startup focused on developing cutting-edge aviation technology. We aim to augment pilots' capabilities and reshape the aviation industry's landscape. This role is at the crossroads of technology and aviation, making it a unique opportunity for someone deeply technical and knowledgeable about aviation. The role will encompass a variety of duties, including managing multiple commercial and defense projects, driving collaboration with vendors, and steering compliance with industry regulations and certifications.
You are a seasoned pilot or aviation expert who understands the needs and constraints of the cockpit. Moreover, you are a technologist at heart, able to comprehend, explain and drive the development of our sophisticated technology. You are experienced in managing complex technical programs, with a knack for effectively communicating across different teams and stakeholders. You are flexible, prepared to travel as needed, and have a well-developed understanding of the commercial and government aviation sectors and defense procurement processes.
Who You Are
- Proven experience as a pilot or in a similar role within the aviation industry.
- In-depth understanding of the technologies used in the aviation industry.
- Excellent project management skills and the ability to manage several concurrent projects.
- Strong technical acumen, with the ability to understand and explain complex technical issues.
- Experience working with vendors and managing relationships.
- Familiarity with industry certification processes and regulatory compliance.
- Understanding of DOD procurement.
- Exceptional written, visual, and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to travel as required.
- Experience with a project management and ticketing system (JIRA, ClickUp, etc.).
- Act as a primary point of contact for commercial and defense engagements.
- Serve as the voice of the customer, advocating for their needs while balancing technological requirements and timelines.
- Manage the development and execution of technical projects, ensuring timely delivery and quality standards.
- Coordinate with teams and stakeholders, including engineering, sales, vendors, and regulators.
- Assist with certifications and regulatory compliance processes to meet industry standards.
- Prepare compelling written proposals and presentations for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with the business development team in pre-sales and post-sales activities, providing technical support and insight.
- Advanced degree in a related field, such as aerospace engineering or computer science.
- Experience in a high-growth tech startup environment.
- Prior experience working with aviation regulators such as the FAA or EASA.
- Existing security clearance for working on defense projects.
- You can translate expertly between military, aviation, and tech languages.
- Experience working at Program Executive Office, Acquisitions, or as a Flag/General Aide or Speechwriter.
- Experience working on aircraft (e.g. maintenance, avionics upgrades, or similar).
