Economic Intelligence Account Executive

Morning Consult  ·  Washington, DC

About Morning Consult:

Morning Consult is a global decision intelligence company changing how modern leaders make smarter, faster, better decisions. The company pairs its proprietary high-frequency data with applied artificial intelligence to better inform decisions on what people think and how they will act.

Ideally this position would be based in Washington, DC, however we are open to our other office locations or remote within the US.

The Role:

Morning Consult is seeking a highly motivated and entrepreneurial Economic Intelligence Account Executive to drive sales of Morning Consult Economic Intelligence (MCEI), a subscription to syndicated global economic data and analysis. In this role, you will take ownership of the sales pipeline and process, from prospecting new leads, scheduling sales introductions, leading pitch meetings and running innovative demos of our world-class Economic Intelligence product. This role will work closely with Morning Consult’s Chief Economist to prioritize sales opportunities, schedule and execute in-person sales presentations and drive top-of-funnel interest in the product.

This is a new role at Morning Consult, designed to sell an existing product into a new addressable market — particularly strategy, financial planning & analysis, finance, demand forecasting and buy-and-sell-side research units within corporate and financial services sectors. This is an exciting opportunity to expand on Morning Consult’s commercial success in the near term and transform Morning Consult’s business in the long term.

The Product:

MCEI provides clients with unparalleled insight into emerging trends in the global economy by integrating Morning Consult’s proprietary, high-frequency economic data with recurring and topical analysis. MCEI data reflects over 13,000 daily survey responses in more than 40 countries, covering consumer confidence, employment, household finances, consumer spending, supply chains and inflation, small business conditions and inflation expectations. Drawing on this proprietary data, premium MCEI reports offer clients recurring economic analysis delivered through the Morning Consult Intelligence platform.

On an as-needed basis, the Economic Intelligence Account Executive also has the opportunity to sell Morning Consult Research Intelligence, the company’s market-leading, full-service custom research product. The combination of MCEI and MCRI provides clients with the best of both worlds: always on syndicated data and analysis paired with bespoke deep dives into particularly relevant topics.

The Economic Research Team at Morning Consult:

Morning Consult’s Economic Research team is responsible for executing the full life cycle of the MCEI product: survey design, data development, data validation, analysis, sales and servicing. The team includes client-focused business economists, data scientists and sales and servicing experts. The team is part of Morning Consult’s Content team and works closely with a broad range of internal stakeholders, including Morning Consult’s Business Development team.

What You’ll Be Working On:

  • Selling MCEI, including identifying prospects, building and executing sales outreach strategies, building and maintaining a robust sales pipeline and completing sales contracting in consultation with Morning Consult’s Legal team
  • Coordinating with the Morning Consult Business Development team to identify MCEI sales opportunities with current clients and appropriately exchange referrals
  • Retaining, renewing and expanding MCEI sales by working with Morning Consult’s Economic Research and Customer Success Management teams
  • Assessing and improving the product pitch by summarizing and presenting to the Chief Economist key findings and lessons learned from both positive and negative sales interactions
About You and What You’ve Done:
  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance or a related field
  • 10+ years of experience in sales at an economic or financial data and analysis company, preferably with experience selling to both corporate and financial services clients. Candidates with experience selling into strategy, financial planning & analysis, finance, demand forecasting and buy-and-sell-side research are preferred
  • Knowledge of and interest in the business and financial implications of global economic and economic policy developments
  • Pipeline development and management — experience with cold and warm sales outreach, meeting scheduling, meeting follow-ups, contract negotiations and closings. Experience with Mail Merge and Salesforce is preferred
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to use data to inform decision-making
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to articulate complex ideas and negotiate effectively with clients and partners
  • Process-oriented with strong attention to detail
  • Listening to clients and prospects to understand their business operations and business needs
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt quickly to changing priorities
  • Passion for delivering exceptional customer experiences, and a willingness to go above and beyond to exceed client expectations
  • Willing to take feedback, learn and grow; an ethos of continuous self-improvement

Note: We view the above section as a guide, not a checklist. Research shows that underrepresented/marginalized groups are less likely to apply for a job if they feel that they don’t meet 100% of the qualifications. We welcome diverse and non-traditional backgrounds and encourage you to apply even if you don’t satisfy every single bullet on this list! It’s expected that you’ll learn and grow throughout your time at Morning Consult, so if you’re open to building new skills, we’d love to hear from you.

The expected base salary range for this position is $107,500 - $174,900, with a midpoint of $141,200.

In most cases, we target the midpoint of our salary ranges for new hire compensation. This placement is reflective of full proficiency in a role. This role is eligible for additional variable compensation and an equity grant, which will be discussed in your initial recruiter conversation.
