I am seeking a skilled professional to assist with a spatial analysis project focusing on temperature and urban heat islands in cities. The successful candidate will be proficient in using QGIS and R to perform data analysis and visualization. Key responsibilities include conducting spatial data processing, generating heat maps, and identifying urban heat island hotspots. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in GIS, spatial analysis, and statistical modeling. Effective communication and problem-solving skills are highly desired. This project offers the opportunity to contribute to research on urban climate change and its implications. Interested candidates with relevant experience are encouraged to apply.
Project Description: Seeking an experienced data analyst and GIS expert to assist with an in-depth study of urban heat islands (UHIs) in a German city. The objective is to analyze and model the impact of vegetation, specifically trees, green spaces, and water bodies, on urban temperatures.
Available Data:
•QGIS with the important layers and data (vegetation and water data)
• Temperature data for the city
Required Analysis:
1. Spatial Heatmap Creation with GIS:
• Overlaying temperature heatmap with tree locations. (mostly done)
• Incorporating green and water bodies data to analyze their influence on temperature.
2. Statistical Modeling: (if possible with R)
• Regression analyses to model the relationship between vegetation and temperature.
• Using proximity to trees and vegetation as independent variables and temperature data as the dependent variable.
• Compare different areas in the City
3. Optional: Simulation of Vegetation Impacts:
• Developing models to simulate changes in vegetation density on UHI.
• Open for any input and ideas
Requirements:
• Proficiency in QGIS
• Experience with statistical analysis software (R, Python)
• Ability to model urban climates and conduct simulations
• Understanding of data cleaning and preparation, including spatial interpolation and standardizing to a uniform coordinate system
Project Goals:
• Create an integrated map that shows the influence of vegetation on UHI.
• Develop a statistical model that describes the relationship between vegetation parameters and temperature.
• Comparing temperature of certain areas
• Simulation model that demonstrates the potential effect of changes in vegetation.
Application: Please send me your credentials, including past projects with a similar focus, as well as your availability. Looking forward to hearing from you. We will talk about all the details in our first get to know each other call.
